About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Data Scientist to join the Windows Experimentation team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and implementation of technical strategies that underpin experimentation and decision-making processes across the Windows platform. Your primary responsibility will be to shape the experimentation engine that enables rapid, reliable, and trustworthy product innovation and deployment. This involves defining best practices for experimental design, measurement, and decision frameworks that support scalable and safe software releases.
You will own the design and evolution of measurement systems, guardrails, and scorecards to ensure high-quality insights at scale. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including product management, engineering, and data science—to foster a culture of data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement. The role offers flexibility for remote work within the United States and provides an opportunity to influence the future of Windows through innovative experimentation techniques, mentorship, and thought leadership.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field
- Proven experience in designing and executing large-scale experimentation and A/B testing frameworks
- Strong understanding of causal inference, statistical analysis, and measurement techniques
- Experience with data modeling, automation, and scalable analytics platforms
- Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to lead root cause analysis and drive corrective actions
- Excellent communication skills to articulate complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated leadership in influencing cross-functional teams and fostering collaboration
- Experience mentoring junior data scientists and contributing to hiring practices
Responsibilities
- Establish and promote experimentation best practices across the Windows organization, including experimental design, measurement, and decision frameworks
- Own and enhance experimentation quality systems, guardrails, scorecards, and decision mechanisms to ensure trustworthy insights at scale
- Lead root cause investigations and postmortem analyses for conflicting results or regressions, implementing fixes into practice
- Develop next-generation measurement capabilities, automating processes to improve insight generation and reduce manual effort
- Drive alignment and adoption of experimentation standards through influence and collaboration with product, engineering, and data science teams
- Create clarity around experimentation practices, reducing duplicated efforts and improving decision quality across teams
- Mentor and develop talent within the data science community, leading reviews, learning sessions, and contributing to hiring initiatives
- Represent Windows Experimentation externally by sharing insights and innovations at academic and industry forums
- Stay current on advances in experimentation, causal inference, and analytics, piloting new techniques and embedding successful approaches into practice
Benefits
- Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses
- Flexible remote work options within the United States
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans
- Retirement savings plans with company matching
- Generous paid time off and holidays
