Product Designer (UI/UX) — Data Storytelling & Prototyping

Location: London (hybrid)

Function: Design / Product

£50 to £100k Open to Mid-Level or Snr Candidates

Turn messy data and rough code into lovable, clickable prototypes that tell a clear story. You’ll sit at the intersection of UI/UX, product discovery, and data—crafting mock websites, dashboards, and concept demos that help senior stakeholders “see” the strategy before engineering scales it.

  • Your prototypes de-risk investment and align leadership fast.
  • Move teams from documents to demos, evidence over opinion.

This role will suit a Product (PM), Data Experience/Visualisation, or a Chief-of-Staff-style strategy enablement candidate!

What you’ll do

  • Prototype fast: Build concept “vaporware” and demo-ready UIs in 24–72 hours to test value, UX, and narrative—no production hardening required.
  • Tell the visual story: Translate complex data into simple flows, charts, and micro-copy that land with C-suite and product leads.
  • Make code look cool: Wrap early backend/analytics outputs in clean, interactive experiences that explain the “why.”
  • Drive discovery: Partner with product and data teams to shape hypotheses, storyboard journeys, and inform go/no-go decisions.
  • Tailor for clients: Adapt data visualisations and narratives to different audiences and use-cases.
  • Ship clarity, not slides: Produce high-impact artefacts (clickable prototypes + succinct one-pagers) that move decisions forward.
  • Work cross-functionally: Collaborate with the Head of Data Products and adjacent squads; operate in agile rituals.

What you’ll bring

  • UI/UX foundations: Strong grasp of layout, hierarchy, interaction patterns, and what “good” feels like.
  • Product sense: Comfort framing problems, defining success metrics, and prioritising ruthlessly.
  • Data literacy: You understand how data is structured and why it’s valuable; you can map data to stories and screens.
  • Rapid build toolkit: Figma/Framer/Webflow for front-of-house; basic proto-friendly stacks (e.g., simple React/Next or Streamlit/Gradio) to make demos click.
  • Viz fluency: Plotly/Observable/Vega-Lite or similar; you can pick the right chart for the narrative.
  • Communication: Executive-ready storytelling—concise, visual, and outcome-oriented.

Nice to have

  • Basic HTML/CSS/TypeScript to wire up interactions (not full-stack engineering).
  • Light Python/SQL or comfort working with CSVs/JSON to feed prototypes.
  • Consulting-grade slide craft (think BCG-level clarity), used sparingly to support the demo.
