The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Projects Directorate (PJ) – Innovation & Competitiveness Department (INCO) – Small Businesses & Innovation Advisory Division (SBIA), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2025)

Objective of the traineeship

The Small Businesses and Innovation Advisory Division (SBIA) is a part of the Innovation and Competitiveness Department (INCO) in the Project Directorate (PJ). One of the workstreams of the division is related to the appraisal of MBIL (multiple beneficiary intermediated loan) operations (and similar) with green windows. Green windows permit Financial Intermediaries to identify and allocate sub-projects that comply with EIB Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability eligibilities. The SBIA team is also providing support to the Financial Intermediaries in answering their questions related to the MBIL product and green windows eligibilities (helpdesk).

The overall goal of the Traineeship is to develop a knowledge management tool based on the questions and answers received in the context of MBIL product and green financing.

This project will give you an opportunity to gain an overview of the EIB’s objectives and the problems posed in achieving them, provide with practical knowledge of the workings of the EIB, and allow to build on and put into practice the skills acquired during their studies.

Responsibilities

Under supervision of EIB staff, your responsibilities will be to:

  • Analyse the past questions and answers received in the context of green financing through financial intermediaries
  • Propose adequate categories and cluster the questions
  • On the basis of past answers, provide generic responses where possible
  • Identify gaps in terms of education tools available from the EIB
  • Have opportunities to enlarge the experience by taking part in the helpdesk activities
  • Present the results of the work to the EIB team in the form of a report and presentation

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree preferably in environmental science, climate policy, sustainability, developmental studies, economics or business administration or other relevant to the scope of this traineeship;
  • Good analytical skills (proven technical expertise in data analysis and qualitative research would be considered an advantage);
  • Familiarity with the frameworks such as Paris Agreement, EU Sustainable Finance Taxonomy, Sustainable Development Goals, EIB Group Climate Bank Roadmap to help navigate the complexities of the EU CA&ES policies and eligibilities would be considered an advantage;
  • Prior experience with or exposure to the topic of the climate mitigation, adaptation or environmental sustainability would be considered an advantage;
  • Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Word and Excel);
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and/or French. Knowledge of other EU language would be an advantage;
