About the Role
We’re seeking an Intermediate Game Designer who will help develop features and systems that will make the soon to be launched Imagine Island even more fun and engaging for kids. You’ll bring creativity and a player-first mindset, focusing on how activities feel as much as how they function. Working closely with the Game Play Programmer and the rest of our team, you’ll share ideas, take feedback, and iterate quickly to design experiences that are age-appropriate, welcoming, and enjoyable for kids and families alike.
Responsibilities
- Design multiplayer gameplay systems and activities that are fun, accessible, and rewarding for kids.
- Collaborate with the Game Play Programmer to bring your designs to life as interactive play, mini-games, avatar interactions, and shops that keep players engaged.
- Prototype ideas and refine them through testing and feedback.
- Track and submit your work using tools like Jira and Slack, staying organized and accountable.
- Balance creativity with time management to deliver polished designs on schedule.
- Iterate quickly based on feedback to improve features and enhance the player experience.
Requirements
- 2–4 years of game design experience, or equivalent project-based background.
- Strong understanding of systems, mechanics, and player progression.
- Experience designing for web and/or mobile platforms.
- Awareness of what makes gameplay fun, age-appropriate, and family-friendly.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Clear communication skills for sharing ideas and incorporating feedback.
- You must be legally permitted to work in Canada.
