The Opportunity

We're seeking an exceptional Senior Backend Engineer to join as a core team member and future technical leader. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment while building scalable, production-grade systems.

You'll work directly with our technical founder to architect and implement the next generation of our platform, with a clear path to leading a team within 6-12 months. Your work will directly impact thousands of customers and shape the future of automated claims processing.

What You'll Build

• AI-Powered Automation Systems: Implement sophisticated workflows for automated claim validation, customer support automation, and legal assistance AI using Google Vertex AI
• Scalable APIs: Design and develop robust APIs powering our customer-facing products and internal tools
• Intelligent Backend Services: Create event-driven systems that process thousands of claims efficiently
• Integration Solutions: Build reliable integrations with aviation data providers, banking systems, and legal platforms
• Architecture Evolution: Lead the modernization of our codebase, making critical decisions on system design and scalability

Technical Stack

• Backend: Node.js, NestJS (TypeScript)
• Cloud Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform, Vertex AI
• Databases: Firebase, Cloud Spanner, Elasticsearch
• Architecture: Hybrid monolithic and event-driven systems

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Node.js and NestJS
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform
• 2+ years working with Firebase, Cloud Spanner, and Elasticsearch
• Proven track record of successfully implementing AI/ML solutions in production environments
• Strong TypeScript expertise and commitment to type-safe code
• Experience with event-driven architectures and distributed systems
• Self-sufficient problem solver who can plan, execute, and deliver complex projects independently

Technical Leadership Qualities

• Ability to make sound architectural decisions balancing speed and scalability
• Experience mentoring developers and providing constructive code reviews
• Strong documentation and communication skills for remote collaboration
• Strategic thinking about technical debt, refactoring, and system evolution

Nice to Have

• Experience with Google Vertex AI
• Background in fintech, legaltech, or aviation industry
• Experience scaling systems from thousands to millions of users
• Knowledge of EU regulations or claims processing workflows
