Compensation: $120,000 - $150,000 Base Salary + Benefits

Overview

At Courthouse News, we’re dedicated to delivering timely, insightful, and accessible legal news through innovative technology. As a Mobile App Developer on our Technology Team, you will take ownership of our iOS and Android applications, which mirror our primary web app used by reporters, editors, and subscribers nationwide. You’ll work closely with backend and frontend engineers to ensure our mobile experience is fast, reliable, and aligned with our overall product.

Responsibilities

  • Work with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into mobile solutions.
  • Maintain and enhance our existing iOS and Android apps that support our newsroom and subscribers.
  • Develop new mobile features that align with the functionality of our primary web app.
  • Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate APIs and ensure data consistency across platforms.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve mobile-specific issues.
  • Optimize app performance, usability, and reliability.
  • Participate in Agile workflows, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation to support development and cross-team collaboration.
  • Uphold and promote best practices for coding standards, testing, and deployment.
  • Stay current with mobile development best practices, frameworks, and OS updates.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 4+ years of professional experience building mobile applications for iOS (Swift, SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose).
  • Experience with async and reactive programming, e.g., Combine and Swift Concurrency on iOS and Kotlin Coroutines on Android.
  • Familiarity with mobile UI/UX standards and accessibility best practices.
  • Strong understanding of integrating with RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Experience with mobile app distribution, updates, and publishing to the App Store and Google Play.
  • Solid problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with push notifications, in-app purchasing (IAP).
  • Knowledge of mobile security best practices.
  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines for mobile.
  • Prior experience with media, publishing, or content-driven applications.
