Software Engineer (Kotlin/Java) — Hybrid, Amsterdam — Contract
Join a high-impact product team building secure, scalable microservices for a major consumer brand. You’ll shape POCs and MVPs, influence architecture, and help drive modern DevOps practices—without any travel.
The role
- Explore product ideas and contribute to POC/MVP planning with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Partner with the Engineering Manager, Architect, and Tech Lead on solution & system design.
- Build and own microservices and supporting infrastructure from development through deployment.
- Define testing and deployment strategies; create clear supporting documentation.
- Help onboard engineers and clarify requirements, implementation details, and best practices.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure integrations land smoothly.
Tech stack you’ll work with
- Kotlin & Java
- Kubernetes (GKE), Postgres, Pub/Sub
- GitHub Actions, Terraform
- Observability: distributed tracing, structured logging, metrics (e.g., Grafana, Elasticsearch)
What you’ll bring
- Pragmatic mindset and a love for simple, robust solutions.
- Hands-on experience building microservice architectures with an OO language (ideally Kotlin/Java).
- Strong DevOps grounding: you can deliver secure, scalable, resilient services.
- Cloud experience—GCP preferred (other major clouds welcome).
- Solid observability know-how (tracing, logging, metrics) and familiarity with monitoring/alerting tools.
- Great communication skills and a collaborative approach.
