Microsoft Azure offers customers a scalable, on-demand infrastructure and platform to build, host, and operate services across a global network of datacenters. At the heart of this ecosystem is the Azure Compute platform, which manages the health and lifecycle of millions of virtual machines, containers, and the underlying host infrastructure.
We are part of the PilotFish Core team within Azure Compute, responsible for building distributed, high-scale foundational services that power the core of the Compute platform. Our systems enable other infrastructure components to operate with high performance and scalability. Today, our platform manages over 13 million servers worldwide, serving both first-party and third-party customers.
As a fast-growing R&D organization, we deliver critical production scenarios while also incubating new ideas. As a software engineer in our team you will gain deep insights into how large-scale distributed systems and cloud platforms are architected. Responsibilities
- Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.
- Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
- Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.
- Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
- Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.
- Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- You must be legally authorised to work in Romania to be eligible for this role (Legally authorised = has citizenship or has been granted a valid visa or work permit)
- Fluency in English
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
