We are seeking a talented Senior Android Engineer to join a cross-functional team focused on mobile mapping and outdoor exploration experiences. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain Android applications that are scalable, performant, and work seamlessly offline. You will collaborate with iOS, web, and backend engineers, as well as product managers, designers, and QA, to deliver impactful features for outdoor enthusiasts. This position offers an opportunity to influence product development, implement best practices, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to a growing, mission-driven team. Accountabilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and support Android applications, ensuring high performance and responsiveness
  • Write reusable, maintainable code and implement unit, integration, and acceptance tests
  • Collaborate with designers and product managers to ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
  • Optimize applications for speed, scalability, battery life, and offline functionality
  • Participate in setting Android platform best practices and provide technical leadership to the team
  • Mentor junior engineers and assist with knowledge sharing and technical guidance
  • Work cross-functionally with iOS, web, and backend engineers to deliver integrated solutions


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of professional experience developing Android applications
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and Android development tools
  • Experience with APIs, web services, and data integration methods
  • Strong understanding of data structures, code quality, and maintainable software practices
  • Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with team members
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Permanent US work authorization is required
  • Willingness to travel bi-annually for multiple days to corporate offices or strategic team locations


Preferred:

  • Experience with geospatial tools, MapBox, GraphQL, or content management systems
  • Familiarity with GCS, Firebase, Kubernetes, microservices, Docker
  • Experience in distributed or remote team environments
  • Passion for outdoor activities, particularly fishing
