(Freelance → Core Team Member at Startup Launch)

We are preparing the launch of a spin-off from the University of Antwerp (early 2026) and are already looking for a freelance software developer who can grow into the role of Lead Developer when we officially launch.

Our mission is to revolutionize how HVAC systems are designed, optimized, and delivered. We’re building a BIM plug-in that automates and optimizes HVAC ductwork design in non-residential buildings, tackling one of the most time-consuming and error-prone processes in construction.

This is a unique opportunity to:

YOUR ROLE

As our Lead Developer, you’ll be both a hands-on builder and a technical leader. You’ll work closely with the founders to turn cutting-edge research into scalable software, set the technical direction, and ensure our architecture is robust and future-ready.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, develop, and deploy Python- and .NET-based solutions.
• Architect and maintain a scalable, cloud-native system.
• Design and implement REST APIs for integrations.
• Translate research and product requirements into clear technical roadmaps.
• Ensure code quality, maintainability, and best practices.
• Provide technical leadership & mentorship to developers.
• Collaborate with the CTO on architecture and strategy.
• Balance rapid prototyping with long-term scalability.

WHAT WE EXPECT

Must-haves:

• 5+ years of software development experience, incl. technical leadership.
• Excellent skills in Python (core stack) and C#.NET.
• Strong knowledge of software & cloud architecture (Azure or similar).
• Experience with REST APIs.
• Pragmatic problem-solver with great communication skills.

Nice-to-haves:

• Basic knowledge of BIM.
• Front-end experience (React/Angular).
• Background in optimization or simulation workflows.
