Applied ML Engineer - €80,000 - €100,000 per annum - Fully Remote in Europe
About the Role:
We’re looking for a hands-on Applied ML Engineer who thrives in the fast-evolving open-source LLM space and is ready to work at startup speed on a consumer-facing product that makes a positive impact.
The ideal candidate would have a passion for using AI to solve meaningful problems, and be excited about building technology that helps people spend less time glued to their screens and more time engaging with the world around them.
What You'll Do:
As an Applied ML Engineer, you will design, build, and deploy the core AI systems powering a personalized activity recommendation engine. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Owning End-to-End Algorithm Development: Take full ownership of key features from concept to production. Build robust, scalable systems while prioritizing rapid iteration and delivering value quickly.
- Implementing & Optimizing LLM-Powered Features: Integrate and fine-tune open-weight LLMs for natural language understanding, classification, content generation, and conversational experiences.
- Developing Ranking & Recommendation Algorithms: Push the limits of traditional recommender systems and help solve the cold-start problem with innovative approaches to ranking and information retrieval.
- Shaping Technical Architecture & Tooling: Play a key role in defining the system architecture, technology stack, and platform evolution in a dynamic, early-stage environment.
What We're Looking For:
- 3+ years of hands-on engineering experience applying AI, ML, and algorithms to user-facing products
- Proven experience deploying custom LLMs and SLMs in production, including fine-tuning and quantizing models (e.g., Gemma, Llama, Qwen)
- Strong background in ranking algorithms and recommendation systems, including design, implementation, and optimization (experience in social media, ads, or consumer products is a plus)
- Proficiency with Python (including Pydantic) and ML frameworks; bonus points for experience with FastAPI, GCP, and vector or graph databases
- Extra credit: Experience with Flutter, Node.js, or Rust
Our Culture:
You’ll thrive here if you:
- Are a proactive builder: You don’t wait for perfect specs — you experiment, iterate, and make progress fast.
- Love learning & teaching: You stay ahead of emerging trends in AI/ML and enjoy sharing insights with your team.
- Communicate with clarity: Especially in a remote-first environment, you can explain complex ideas simply and effectively.
- Care deeply about users: You put users first and use technology to create products that genuinely delight.
Who You'll Work With:
You’ll join a seasoned team of entrepreneurs and engineers with experience at some of the world’s leading consumer tech companies — giving you the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from an experienced, mission-driven, technically deep team.
