Key Accountabilities
In this role as System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Conduct hazard analyses such as HAZOP, FTA, and FMEA to proactively identify risks in naval systems.
- Ensure compliance with international safety standards, including IEC 61508 and MIL-Std-882E.
- Develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies to enhance system safety.
- Maintain structured and traceable hazard documentation, utilizing an established risk matrix.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate safety requirements seamlessly into system designs.
- Define and document comprehensive system safety requirements tailored for naval vessels.
- Function as the primary contact for system safety matters, both internally and with external stakeholders.
- Promote a strong safety culture through training, awareness programs, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Lead the system safety engineering team, integrating safety processes into standard operations.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to team members while contributing to performance appraisals and professional development.
- Drive continuous improvement within the department by refining safety processes.
- Ensure strict adherence to HSSEQ / IMED policies and procedures.
Skills & Experience
We are looking for candidates for the position of System Safety Engineer with the following qualifications:
- Bachelor or Master degree in a relevant technical field.
- Extensive experience in system safety engineering, ideally within shipbuilding or naval defence.
- Strong expertise in system safety analysis methodologies and standards such as IEC 61508, MIL-Std-882E, and the Machine Directive.
- Proven experience leading high-performing teams, with excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems engineering.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Requirements Management Tools.
- Fluent in Dutch and English; German language skills are a plus.
- Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
- Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with (also) a non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible given the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
