About The Role
Waymo is seeking a talented Perception Evaluation Engineer to join its dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and reliability of Waymo’s perception systems, which are critical for autonomous vehicle operation. You will develop and maintain evaluation tools, execute complex evaluation workflows, and analyze performance data to identify areas for improvement. Collaboration with cross-functional teams of engineers and researchers will be essential as you contribute to enhancing the evaluation infrastructure, ensuring it scales efficiently to support Waymo’s rapid growth.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum of 2 years of software development experience
- Proficiency in C++ and Python programming languages
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, and algorithms
- Experience in designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software components
- Basic knowledge of SQL and data querying techniques
- Ability to analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and generate insights
- Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and methodologies
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software tools for perception evaluation pipelines, primarily using C++ and Python
- Execute perception evaluation workflows, monitor ongoing jobs, and troubleshoot issues to ensure accurate and timely results
- Identify opportunities to improve existing evaluation infrastructure, enhancing scalability, efficiency, and reliability
- Collaborate with engineers and researchers to understand requirements, contribute to system design, and implement solutions
- Analyze evaluation data, generate comprehensive reports, and communicate key insights to stakeholders
- Support the adaptation of evaluation processes to evolving project needs and technological advancements
- Contribute to documentation and best practices for perception evaluation methodologies
- Competitive salary package within the range of $170,000—$216,000 USD, commensurate with experience and location
