OBJECTIVES
- Prototype and experiment: Build small-scale prototypes using Unity (or similar game engines) to test new game ideas and mechanics quickly.
- Design engaging gameplay loops for players, focusing on fun, clarity, and accessibility.
- Collaborate with designers, artists, and engineers to bring prototypes to polished features and game content.
- Analyze feedback and data from playtests to improve designs and player experience.
- Explore new concepts and genres by researching market trends and competitor games.
- Assist in level design for existing titles, helping refine challenge curves and player progression.
- Hands-on prototyping skills with Unity or similar game engines.
- Creative problem solver who thinks outside the box and loves trying new ideas.
- Strong interest in Steam or mobile indie games — you regularly play and analyze them.
- Understanding of basic game design principles: pacing, feedback loops, difficulty balance, and player engagement.
- Collaborative mindset — comfortable working closely with senior designers and developers.
- Attention to detail — you actually read this job description!
- 1–2 years of experience in game design or strong personal portfolio with prototypes/demos.
- Proficiency in Unity (or similar game engine) for rapid prototyping; coding knowledge in C# or C++ or equivalent is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Game Design, Computer Science, or related field preferred, but strong portfolios and self-taught experience welcome.
- Experience designing gameplay mechanics, levels, or small games (school projects, indie titles, game jams all count).
- Los Angeles, CA: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work;
- Prolonged period of time sitting at a desk and computer.
