The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its EIB Global Directorate (GLO) – International Partners Department (IP) – Financial Inclusion Division (FIN INC), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2025)

Please note that you are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications. We will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.

Objective of the traineeship

The objective of the traineeship is to support the EIB’s financial sector lending activities by providing timely and accurate counterpart credit and market analysis in the context of new and existing operations with financial intermediaries across International Partners’ core markets. The division is embedded within the International Partners' department, delivering on EIB Global's development finance objectives for public and private sector operations in Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. You will assist the financial inclusion division in meeting the department's annual lending targets focused mainly on creating impact in line with its public policy goals, existing mandates, and the European Commission's Global Gateway initiative.

Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Support counterpart credit risk analysis
  • Assist in the financial sector analysis
  • Support the review of regulatory regimes and supervisory standards
  • Assist in the analysis of (financial) market and sector trends
  • Perform peer group analysis
  • Assist in the preparation of loan appraisal documentation
  • Provide ad-hoc support in preparation of conferences, missions, and meetings.

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree, preferably in Economics, Finance, Business, or Engineering
  • A first experience in (investment) banking, central banking, or management consulting would be considered a distinct advantage
  • Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Excel)
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish would be considered an asset.
