The UX/UI Designer will play a key role in analyzing business objectives and user requirements to create optimized, user-centered design solutions. This role involves conducting user research, mapping journeys, and designing both low- and high-fidelity prototypes that meet accessibility standards and organizational branding. The designer will collaborate with partners such as Code for America and internal stakeholders, applying best practices in user experience and leveraging modern design tools. The candidate should be comfortable designing for systems incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), with a strong emphasis on explainable AI and effective human-AI interaction.
Responsibilities:
- Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to gain deep insights into user interactions and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies in accordance with accessibility guidelines and branding standards.
- Collaborate with Code for America and cross-functional teams to apply industry best practices in UI/UX design.
- Participate in discovery workshops, sprint planning, and feedback sessions to ensure design decisions align with business objectives.
- Utilize design and research tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Hotjar to implement usability testing, responsive design, and SEO optimization.
- Design user interfaces for AI/ML systems, with a focus on explainable AI (XAI) and human-AI interaction principles.
- Present complex data and insights through clear and concise data visualizations.
- Advocate for user-centered design principles while ensuring compliance with WCAG and accessibility standards.
- Facilitate design workshops and communicate design solutions effectively to stakeholders.
- Bonus: Contribute expertise to eligibility determination systems or similar data-intensive applications.
- Hands-on experience designing enterprise user interfaces and experiences, including wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies using Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch.
- Strong collaboration skills with technical and non-technical teams, translating business needs into intuitive, accessible design solutions.
- Experience applying UX design principles such as hierarchy, contrast, and alignment to responsive web and mobile applications.
- Proven ability to design within agile development cycles, transitioning from sketches to visual fidelity prototypes.
- Experience creating visual narratives and diagrams to communicate workflows, system architecture, and timelines.
- Demonstrated ability to lead design workshops and feedback sessions to align business goals with user needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field (equivalent experience may be considered).
- Strong multitasking and organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent design streams.
- Experience designing interfaces for AI/ML-enabled systems with a focus on human-AI interaction.
- Background in government services, healthcare, or financial technology projects.
- Familiarity with eligibility determination systems or rule-based, data-intensive applications.
- Advanced skills in data visualization and storytelling for complex datasets.
