Network Engineer
Location: Liverpool Support Services, UK
Salary: £67,000 per annum + benefits
Contract: Permanent
Alchemy Recruitment is proud to be supporting our client, a leading organisation within their sector, in the search for an experienced Network Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking IT team and play a key role in maintaining and optimising critical network infrastructure.
The Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Network Engineer to ensure the stability, security, and performance of their in-house voice, data, video, and wireless services. The successful candidate will be involved in designing and deploying LANs and WANs, overseeing installations and upgrades, monitoring performance, and providing technical support across the organisation.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll contribute to IT strategy, lead on deployments, and work closely with stakeholders to ensure the network supports business objectives effectively.
Main Duties:
Strategy & Planning
1. Collaborate with department heads to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
2. Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network con
3. figuration, network mapping,
4. processes, and service records.
5. Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
Acquisition & Deployment
1. Design and deploy LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and other hardware.
2. Conduct research on network products, services, protocols
3. standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
4. Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
5. Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
6. Design, implement, and maintain VOIP phone system to include phone servers, phones, and faxes
7. Design, implement, and maintain Audio/Video systems Operational Management
8. Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling County objectives and processes.
9. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain LAN, WAN, WLAN, VOIP, and wireless networks.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise network performance.
- Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network hardware, servers, and telephony systems.
- Implement and manage IT policies, procedures, and disaster recovery plans.
- Conduct research into new products and technologies to ensure the network remains cutting-edge.
- Liaise with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors for procurement and upgrades.
- Carry out security audits, system backups, and recovery processes.
- Provide technical support and training to users where required.
About You
The ideal candidate will be an adaptable, motivated, and solutions-focused IT professional with a proven track record in network design and administration.
Essential skills and experience include:
- Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years’ relevant experience, Associate degree with 4+ years, or 6+ years of professional experience.
- Proven background in LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation.
- Experience with VOIP systems and network security principles.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Knowledge of data privacy practices and laws.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and customer-focused.
