Engineering Lead (Golang) - Mission-Driven Fintech
Sydney | Hybrid (2-3 days in office)
Package: ~$200k + Super + STI + LTI
About the Company
We’re working with a mission-driven fintech in Sydney. Following growth and internal promotions, they are hiring an Engineering Lead to take full ownership of a squad of ~7 engineers.
This is a chance to step into a hands-on leadership role where you’ll shape architecture, drive delivery, and mentor engineers. All while contributing to a product that makes a genuine social impact.
The Role
As an Engineering Lead, you’ll balance technical contribution (50%) with leadership and delivery (50%). You’ll stay actively involved in coding, reviews, and architectural design, while guiding your squad’s output and growth.
You’ll have end-to-end accountability for design, implementation, and delivery, working closely with peers like the Head of Engineering and Platform Lead to shape system architecture and scaling decisions.
What You’ll Do
- Lead a squad of ~7 engineers (front-end & back-end).
- Stay hands-on: code reviews, pair programming, and contributing production code.
- Provide architectural guidance on cloud-native, scalable systems.
- Drive observability, performance metrics, and solution design.
- Take full accountability for squad output and outcomes.
- Mentor engineers technically and professionally; support hiring and performance management.
- Proactively identify priorities and deliver without waiting for direction.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven engineering leadership experience with ownership of delivery.
- Strong Golang skills (commercial, side projects, or self-study).
- Experience with cloud-native systems, scalability, and observability.
- Strong background in distributed systems and performance optimisation.
- Proactive, outcome-driven mindset and the ability to set direction independently.
- Excellent communication skills; collaborative but decisive.
