Engineering Lead (Golang) - Mission-Driven Fintech

About the Company

We’re working with a mission-driven fintech in Sydney. Following growth and internal promotions, they are hiring an Engineering Lead to take full ownership of a squad of ~7 engineers.


This is a chance to step into a hands-on leadership role where you’ll shape architecture, drive delivery, and mentor engineers. All while contributing to a product that makes a genuine social impact.


The Role

As an Engineering Lead, you’ll balance technical contribution (50%) with leadership and delivery (50%). You’ll stay actively involved in coding, reviews, and architectural design, while guiding your squad’s output and growth.


You’ll have end-to-end accountability for design, implementation, and delivery, working closely with peers like the Head of Engineering and Platform Lead to shape system architecture and scaling decisions.


What You’ll Do

  • Lead a squad of ~7 engineers (front-end & back-end).
  • Stay hands-on: code reviews, pair programming, and contributing production code.
  • Provide architectural guidance on cloud-native, scalable systems.
  • Drive observability, performance metrics, and solution design.
  • Take full accountability for squad output and outcomes.
  • Mentor engineers technically and professionally; support hiring and performance management.
  • Proactively identify priorities and deliver without waiting for direction.


What You’ll Bring

  • Proven engineering leadership experience with ownership of delivery.
  • Strong Golang skills (commercial, side projects, or self-study).
  • Experience with cloud-native systems, scalability, and observability.
  • Strong background in distributed systems and performance optimisation.
  • Proactive, outcome-driven mindset and the ability to set direction independently.
  • Excellent communication skills; collaborative but decisive.
