Embedded Systems Engineer at Hydryx
Who we are
At Hydryx, we’re turning landfills into climate solutions. Landfills are one of the biggest blind spots in climate tech. They leak methane, one of the most potent greenhouse gases, into the atmosphere for decades. The emissions from landfills alone drive 6% of global climate change. That’s more than aviation and shipping combined.
We think that’s fixable. Founded in 2023, Hydryx builds technology that makes landfill gas systems work like they should. We replace outdated, manual infrastructure with fully automated systems. Our platform combines on-site sensors, real-time monitoring, and a predictive control algorithm to capture more landfill gas, reduce emissions, and generate clean power.
The entire stack is built in-house; hardware, software, cloud, and installed directly in the field. No assumptions, no black boxes. Just better control, better outcomes, and a real path to decarbonizing waste.
The fact that this sector isn’t “sexy” is exactly why it’s so interesting to us. It’s overlooked, underserved and full of low-hanging climate wins.
We’re based in Amsterdam, scaling fast, and hiring. If you want to work on real-world climate problems, ones you can see, touch, and fix, come build with us.
The role
We’re looking for a hands-on embedded engineer to own the development of our next-gen hardware. You’ll design PCBs, write firmware, and help scale our hardware to a field-proven solution.
We value what you’ve built more than how many years you’ve worked. You’ve likely seen, and shipped, a wide variety of embedded systems. You will join a small, execution-focused team and work closely with our CTO and embedded (software) engineers.
Who you are
- You’ve built multiple embedded products from scratch, we value projects over years
- Strong in C/C++, low-power firmware, and real-world debugging
- Experienced in schematic design, PCB layout, and prototyping
- Comfortable working with IoT protocols and remote deployments
- Fleet management experience
- Curious, autonomous, and excited by physical product challenges
What you will work on
- MCU selection and integration
- Making global connectivity work (in Brazil, Indonesia, etc.)
- Making over-the-air software updates possible
- Stepping away from 4G connectivity per device by designing and implementing a localized network per landfill site (e.g. mesh)
- Design and test custom PCBs in order to integrate new components into our product
- Optimizing for power consumption
What we offer
- Ownership from day one. The learning curve is steep, the feedback is direct, and we’ll throw as much responsibility at you as you can handle. It’s simple: the more you raise the standard, the more trust and ownership you earn.
- Work that matters. You’ll build systems that capture landfill methane, turn it into energy, and cut one of the world’s biggest climate problems down to size. Real tech, deployed in the real world.
- Amsterdam as home base. We’re building both a product and a team, and for that you need to be in the room part of the week. How you manage that balance is up to you, but collaboration happens fastest in person.
- Upside that’s real. We offer a competitive salary, growth opportunities, and meaningful stock options - because if we win, you should share in the value created.
How to apply
Send your CV and a short motivation letter to [email protected]. Show us what you’ve built.
Let’s build climate tech that works. Literally.
