We deliver the freshest, highest-quality groceries and food in New York. Imagine fish caught in Iceland, served on a dinner table the next day. With more than 12,000 products only available on FreshDirect, we bring both everyday groceries and rare produce directly to New Yorkers’ homes.
Our team of 3,000 people works out of a 60,000 m² fulfillment center only minutes from Manhattan. FreshDirect is more than a delivery service, it’s part of daily life in the city.

We are looking for a Full Stack Java Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable applications and services that power FreshDirect’s e-commerce platform. You will work on both backend and front-end technologies, helping us deliver seamless experiences for millions of customers.

Position Summary
Full Stack Java Developer in Istanbul, Turkey
We are looking for a Full Stack Java Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable applications and services that power FreshDirect’s e-commerce platform. You will work on both backend and front-end technologies, helping us deliver seamless experiences for millions of customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Work on core Java/J2EE applications and related frameworks.
- Build and enhance web interfaces with strong fundamentals in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
- Collaborate on system architecture, caching, and performance optimization.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automation processes.
- Ensure compliance with modern security standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with Istanbul and New York teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
- API design and development of RESTful Services.
- 10+ years of professional experience on core Java/J2EE applications and related frameworks.
- Solid core Java and J2EE expertise.
- Strong fundamentals in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, SEO, and accessibility.
- Practical Linux/Solaris knowledge and shell scripting.
- Experience with CI tools and build automation.
- Hands-on with Spring, JPA, JMS, and relational databases.
- Strong problem-solving and adaptability to fast-changing requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High energy, ownership mindset, and passion for building impactful solutions.
- Deep understanding of Cloud services (GCP preferred).
- Experience with caching frameworks.
- Experience in e-commerce or high transaction-processing environments.
- Knowledge of Postgres, Oracle 12c+, SQL/PLSQL, database design, query optimization.
- Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks (AngularJS, React, Ember, etc.) and JS build tools (Grunt, Gulp, Bower).
- Experience with CSS frameworks (Foundation, Bootstrap, Sass/LESS).
- System administration experience (e.g., F5 load balancer, firewalls, Akamai).
- Knowledge of PCI compliance and security standards.
- Exposure to data science and machine learning algorithms.
- Strong collaboration skills across global teams.
- Ability to communicate technical details clearly.
- Proactive, ownership-driven approach.
- Passion for learning and adapting to new technologies quickly.
