Our financial services client is seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist/Manager for a 6-month contract to lead and oversee their HR function across Canada. This hands-on role combines strategic and operational responsibilities. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to leadership, employees, and union representatives, ensuring compliance with Canadian employment law while fostering a supportive, high-performing culture.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, with 3–4 days on-site and 1–2 days remote. The first three months of onboarding will be primarily on-site in Etobicoke, ON.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the full HR function including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, training, benefits administration, employee relations, and offboarding.
- Serve as the primary contact for employee relations, managing conflict resolution, disciplinary matters, grievances, and workplace investigations.
- Partner with union representatives to handle grievances, consultations, and negotiations.
- Provide expert guidance on Canadian employment legislation, compliance, and HR best practices.
- Manage disability claims, leaves of absence, and accommodation cases.
- Maintain accurate HR data, employee records, and internal HR communications.
- Participate in employee committees and initiatives, including Health & Safety and education fund programs.
- Lead HR-related projects such as HRIS/payroll integrations, performance evaluation systems, and bonus program design.
- Promote and drive employee engagement, culture-building, and productivity initiatives.
Qualifications:
- 5–7+ years of progressive HR experience, including exposure to unionized environments.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian employment law, compliance, and HR policy.
- Proven experience managing grievances, negotiations, and employee consultations.
- Broad HR generalist background with hands-on experience in recruitment, onboarding, training, benefits, and performance management.
- Bilingual in English and French is an asset, but not required.
