About the role:

At Area of People, we build more than just software: we create liveable neighbourhoods. Our AI-driven community platform connects residents with each other and with real estate providers - from investors to housing associations. This way, we support them in measurably strengthening their social impact.

We are looking for an Android Developer who thrives in a scale-up environment, where priorities shift and outcomes matter more than output. This role is not about ticking off tickets, it’s about owning the full lifecycle of our resident-facing Android app: building, iterating, and ensuring the app remains reliable, scalable, and impactful as we grow.

In this role you will:

  • Own the development of our native Android application (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose).
  • Build new features end-to-end, from architecture to Google Play release.
  • Collaborate closely with product, UX/UI, backend, web, and iOS to deliver consistent and high-quality experiences.
  • Ensure scalability and performance through profiling, optimization, and solid architecture choices.
  • Implement and maintain integrations with APIs and backend services.
  • Follow and apply accessibility and design system guidelines.
  • Track adoption, performance, and user feedback to guide iteration.
  • Act as the Android counterpart to the iOS developer, ensuring feature parity.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong skills in Kotlin and Android frameworks (Jetpack Compose, MVVM or Clean Architecture).
  • Experience integrating APIs and working in cross-functional teams.
  • Awareness of design systems, accessibility, and good UX practices.
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a scale-up environment.
  • Ownership mindset: comfortable shipping features independently.
  • 2+ years of experience with Android development
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).

Skills and experience that will help you succeed:

  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Fastlane, GitHub Actions, Bitrise, etc.).
  • Experience with high-usage consumer apps.
  • Background in SaaS or B2B2C platforms.

What we can offer you:

  • A gross monthly salary between €3500 - €5500 (32–40 hours per week, depending on experience).
  • A varied, healthy lunch at the office every day.
  • Office with a view from the Jaarbeurs Innovation Mile, right next to Utrecht Central Station.
  • Hybrid working (from home, at the office, or with clients).
  • A €350 home office setup allowance.
  • A personal development budget with full room to grow your skills.
  • 25 vacation days (based on 40 hours).
  • Pension scheme, travel allowance, and a MacBook.
  • Team outings, drinks, and inspiring sessions.
  • Opportunities to grow within a fast-growing, innovative scale-up.
