MUBI is a global streaming service, production company and film distributor dedicated to elevating great cinema. To make this possible, we create, curate, acquire and champion visionary films, bringing them to audiences all over the world. And we have a team of brilliant, ambitious and passionate individuals to help bring our mission to life. From London to New York, Istanbul to Paris, and Berlin to Mexico - we work together to realize MUBI’s vision.
That’s where you come in! Join our global team and help us make great cinema accessible to everyone, everywhere.
About the role:
MUBI is seeking a frontend engineer to join our team. We're looking to find someone with a genuine excitement for frontend technologies, modern web standards, and the ever-evolving world of UI development. Someone with a curiosity about how great design meets clean code; who enjoys turning mockups into pixel-perfect, responsive interfaces. Someone with an eagerness to learn and grow; not afraid to ask questions, experiment with new tools, or explore better ways of building interfaces.
This is a hybrid role based in London, with 3 days a week in our offices.
Our frontend app is written in Typescript, built using the Next.js framework, with React and Redux, against a REST API, tested with Jest and Cypress, and published to Storybook.
Where you’ll have impact:
- You’ll contribute directly to building and improving the user interfaces that define how customers experience our product.
- You’ll work closely with more experienced engineers, designers, and product managers to bring new features to life—writing clean, maintainable code and learning best practices along the way.
- Your work will help ensure our frontend codebase is robust, accessible, and responsive across devices and browsers.
- You’ll be encouraged to ask questions, grow your technical skills, and take ownership of meaningful tasks that make a real difference for both our users and our engineering team.
- At least 1.5 years of professional experience with JavaScript and a front end framework (React/Vue/Angular). Prodigious new graduates are also welcome.
- Confident grasp of HTML and CSS.
- To be someone who likes to keep on top of the latest developments in web technologies.
- Understanding of client-server interactions, including JSON, RESTful APIs, and modern frontend frameworks with server-side rendering (SSR) as in Next.js.
- Versioning tools, in particular, Git.
- Basic problem solving and debugging skills (eg using browser dev tools).
- Fluent English & excellent communication skills (written and oral).
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies & workflows.
- Familiarity with functional programming concepts, and how they apply to React.
- Exposure to TypeScript or strongly-typed JavaScript patterns.
- Basic accessibility awareness (semantic HTML, ARIA labels etc).
- Experience with testing frameworks and practices, such as unit tests (Jest) and end-to-end tests (Cypress).
- Awareness of web and mobile performance considerations and cross-browser compatibility issues.
- An eye for layout aesthetics, and understanding of responsive design and mobile-first development.
MUBI is committed to being an Equal Opportunity Employer. That means it's our responsibility to ensure that all candidates are not discriminated against in our hiring processes and our employment decisions based on their race, color, religion, nationality or ethnic origin, age, gender identity or expression, sex, marital status, physical or mental disability, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, family or parental status, or any other applicable characteristic.
