Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced, proactive Backend Developer to help build innovative, sustainability-focused platforms that process and visualize complex environmental data. You’ll work across the stack, building robust back-end services using Python and Django as main technologies, alongside lots of other backend technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and Django REST Framework
• Build and optimize geospatial data-processing pipelines using GDAL and GeoPandas
• Implement asynchronous task workflows with Celery
• Design and maintain PostgreSQL databases with PostGIS for spatial data
• Deploy and maintain containerized applications using Docker and Docker Compose
• Provide technical solutions and troubleshoot issues raised by customers and stakeholders
• Collaborate closely with environmental modeler, frontend and design members to deliver new features and improvements

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years professional experience as a backend developer
• Strong proficiency in Python, with extensive experience in Django and Django REST Framework
• Experience with PostgreSQL and PostGIS for spatial database management
• Hands-on experience with Celery and Redis or RabbitMQ for distributed task processing
• Proficiency with Docker and Docker Compose
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Ability to work independently in a startup environment
• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

Preferred Skills (nice to have)

• GDAL/OGR, GeoPandas, Rasterio, and NumPy for geospatial data processing
• Parallel computation with Xarray and Dask
