Role overview:

We’re looking for an Electrochemical Engineer to join our growing team at Stargate Hydrogen. You will become part of the R&D team, developing lab-scale electrolysis testing devices to support both electrode development and stack development activities. You will be reporting to the Cell and Stack Testing Manager (Patrick Teppor). You'd fit perfectly into this role and our culture if you are naturally curious, enjoy a fast-paced environment, and are ready to take ownership of your work.

The position is open to hire internationally, and Stargate will assist international candidates with the relocation process.

About the company:

At Stargate, you will be part of a team determined to change the world. We are passionate about climate, hydrogen and innovation.

Our enthusiastic team and pioneering spirit offer the opportunity to devote yourself to work that has a real purpose. We encourage you to think big and outside the box to bring your ideas to life.

Being in a start-up phase, the company will enable you to shape structure and processes and give you large amounts of responsibility and freedom in your work. The environment is agile, and problems are solved in an unbureaucratic way.

What does the day-to-day look like in this role?

  • Leading the design, development, and validation of advanced laboratory electrolysis test benches for electrode and stack development support
  • Ensuring long-term functionality, reliability, and safety of test benches
  • Documenting test methodologies, system designs, and validation procedures to support knowledge transfer and scalability
  • Sharing test results and data insights with electrode and stack development teams. Collaborating closely with peers from the electrode development team to validate electrode improvements.
  • Working together with the data team to continuously improve data analysis and presentation tools
  • Participating in supplier and partner discussions, as well as in European R&D projects
  • Staying up-to-date with relevant academic and patent literature
  • Working primarily at Stargate R&D labs in Tallinn but regularly visiting the production facility in Tallinn. Working remotely is possible on days which do not require conducting lab experiments.

Must-have characteristics:

  • PhD or Master’s in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or similar
  • Strong background in electrochemistry with a proven track record of conducting rigorous electrochemistry testing studies
  • Willingness to perform hands-on work in the lab and to assist others (e.g. technicians, students) in the lab
  • Systematic approach to problem-solving and documentation
  • Excel working in a team
  • Ability to take charge of problems
  • Great communication skills in English
  • Sense of urgency for developing products that can help accelerate the green transition

Nice-to-have characteristics:

  • Experience of R&D work in a commercial setting
  • Experience with performing alkaline water electrolysis measurements
