Accountabilities
The P2P Node.js Engineer will:
- Design, implement, and optimize peer-to-peer networking protocols and storage systems
- Develop high-performance networking code in JavaScript/Node.js, ensuring low-latency and reliable communication
- Implement custom binary protocols, serialization formats, and cryptographic primitives for secure P2P interactions
- Perform performance profiling, debugging, and optimization of distributed systems
- Collaborate with other engineers to maintain and expand the P2P technology stack
- Contribute to open-source libraries and participate in code reviews to ensure maintainable and scalable solutions
- Stay current with advancements in P2P, distributed systems, and network optimization techniques
Candidates should have:
- Extensive knowledge of peer-to-peer protocols (Kademlia, BitTorrent, libp2p, hypercore)
- Advanced JavaScript skills with experience in Node.js and high-performance networking applications
- Strong understanding of UDP and TCP/IP networking, including NAT traversal techniques
- Experience with cryptographic primitives for secure communication
- Proven ability to optimize network protocols for performance and reliability
- Experience with asynchronous I/O, performance profiling, and debugging of networked systems
- 5+ years building production P2P or distributed systems
- Familiarity with V8 internals, libuv, and bridging Node.js with C via native addons
- Contributions to open-source P2P projects or networking libraries
- Experience building robust systems on unreliable networks
- Knowledge of JavaScript performance optimization for low-latency applications
