We are seeking a talented and innovative P2P Node.js Engineer to join a team shaping the future of decentralized applications. In this role, you will help develop and optimize peer-to-peer networking and storage systems, building software that allows applications to scale without servers. You will work with cutting-edge Node.js technology to implement high-performance networking code, secure communication protocols, and robust distributed systems. This role is fully remote, providing the opportunity to collaborate with a globally distributed team of engineers and innovators. Your contributions will directly impact the development of peer-to-peer applications that prioritize privacy, user control, and decentralization.

Accountabilities

The P2P Node.js Engineer will:

  • Design, implement, and optimize peer-to-peer networking protocols and storage systems
  • Develop high-performance networking code in JavaScript/Node.js, ensuring low-latency and reliable communication
  • Implement custom binary protocols, serialization formats, and cryptographic primitives for secure P2P interactions
  • Perform performance profiling, debugging, and optimization of distributed systems
  • Collaborate with other engineers to maintain and expand the P2P technology stack
  • Contribute to open-source libraries and participate in code reviews to ensure maintainable and scalable solutions
  • Stay current with advancements in P2P, distributed systems, and network optimization techniques


Requirements

Candidates should have:

  • Extensive knowledge of peer-to-peer protocols (Kademlia, BitTorrent, libp2p, hypercore)
  • Advanced JavaScript skills with experience in Node.js and high-performance networking applications
  • Strong understanding of UDP and TCP/IP networking, including NAT traversal techniques
  • Experience with cryptographic primitives for secure communication
  • Proven ability to optimize network protocols for performance and reliability
  • Experience with asynchronous I/O, performance profiling, and debugging of networked systems


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years building production P2P or distributed systems
  • Familiarity with V8 internals, libuv, and bridging Node.js with C via native addons
  • Contributions to open-source P2P projects or networking libraries
  • Experience building robust systems on unreliable networks
  • Knowledge of JavaScript performance optimization for low-latency applications
