We focus on the primary drivers that can impact the overall user experience while managing their business: navigation, preferences, and business profile. We ensure teams can quickly develop and ship their products into the Toast ecosystem while ensuring a consistent and seamless experience to every user in a way that best fits their needs, preferences, and Toast information architecture.

You’ll join a cross-functional team focused on delivering scalable, user-centric platform experiences that power seamless navigation, personalised preferences, and cohesive profile-based experiences across the Toast ecosystem.

About this role* (Responsibilities)
You’ll join a cross-functional team focused on delivering scalable, user-centric platform experiences that power seamless navigation, personalised preferences, and cohesive profile-based experiences across the Toast ecosystem.
- Design and build scalable backend services and APIs that power core platform experiences;
- Contribute to projects that incorporate AI-powered insights and personalisation to improve user experience and conversion.
- Partnered with frontend, design, product, and data science teams to validate, design, and develop ideas that balance user needs, technical scalability, and drive impact
- Help identify friction points and contribute to experiments that improve acquisition, onboarding, and retention.
- Learn and apply best practices in backend development, testing, and performance Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and retrospectives as an engaged team member
- Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team.
- 2+ years of professional experience with Java, Kotlin, or another object-oriented language
- Capacity to tackle complex and ambiguous problems, communicate clearly with others to solve the problem, and share knowledge to help the whole team succeed
- Enjoys building well-engineered, reliable, and scalable microservices
- Driven by real-world customer impact
- Experience working in a team with Agile/Scrum methodology focused on delivering reliable, high-quality software
- Professional experience in component testing and E2E testing
- Experience with AWS technologies like DynamoDB and ECS
- Exposure to distributed systems, SaaS, SQL, Apache Pulsar
- Experience working on a platform team
- Exposure to GraphQL
- Passion for helping small businesses thrive
