Company Description

Industrial Drive Service (IDS) Inc. is an advanced custom design systems house established in 1988. We specialize in designing, assembling, programming, and installing DC and AC variable speed drive-motor control systems for a variety of industrial applications, including metal processing, materials handling, automation, and process control machinery. Our services include fully supported control panels, operator stations, and on-site commissioning. We cater to manufacturers and OEMs, providing new systems, upgrades, and maintenance services. IDS is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and CSA and standards.


Purpose of the Service & Repairs Business Unit: To provide customers with quality and timely repairs and services.

The Service Technician is responsible for developing and maintaining a keen knowledge of automated systems and the integral parts and processes involved. Travel is required to assist customers,

Specifically, the Service Technician must:

·      Respond in a timely and professional manner to service calls at customer locations including electrical control systems, electric motors, drives, PLCs, and all other protective and switching equipment located in the electrical panel.

·      Be able to troubleshoot equipment feedback devices, such as encoders and sensors.

·      Be able to design and develop control systems, including electrical system sizing, component selection, software development, and component commissioning.

·      Be able to repair drives in-house.

·      Exhibit good knowledge of electrical and mechanical design.

·      Know how to produce basic electrical/mechanical drawings.

·      Be proficient in the use of basic electrical tools and computerized equipment including:

o  screwdrivers

o  wrenches

o  wire strippers

o  crimpers

o  jigsaws

o  soldering irons

o  electrical multimeters

o  drills

o  knockouts

o  heat guns

o  thermal inspection equipment

o  oscilloscopes

o  meggers

o  power meters

o  air compressors


·      Have knowledge of the proper use of chemicals including:


o  Degreasers

o  Dielectric paste

o  Soldering flux

o  Solder

o  Epoxies

o  Paints


·      Quickly learning new technologies as they arise.

·      Develop basic customer quotes.

·      Have knowledge of or the ability to learn applicable industry standards including ISO and CSA.

·      Have the required knowledge to inspect and certify products to meet ISO and CSA standards.

·      Have well developed computer skills including Microsoft Office 365 applications.


The Service Technician must ensure:

·      ISO, CSA, and IDS standards are always followed.

·      The quality of the product being produced meets or exceeds the customer’s standard of excellence.

·      Tracking, monitoring, and reporting is completed for ISO, CSA, and IDS standards for quality purposes.

·      Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety protocol is up to date.

·      Workplace Health and Safety is always being followed.

·      Personal participation in development and training opportunities as provided by the employer; be willing to take the initiative to develop their work skills to meet the company’s future goals.


Other Requirements:

·      Some overtime (including weekend and holiday) hours will be required, sometimes with little notice.

·      After reaching a level of competency, it is expected that you will be on a rotating on-call schedule.

·      Up to an approximate 50% travel will be required. Customer base is mostly in (but not limited to) Ontario & USA. A valid driver’s license and a valid passport (with full access to the USA) is essential. 

·      Requires frequent manual handling of electrical equipment. Must be able to lift and carry electrical equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to 50lbs on a regular basis.

·      Must be proficient in using torque tools (manual and powered) for securing electrical connections to precise specifications.

·      Tasks may involve working overhead, climbing ladders or scaffolding, and sustained physical effort.

·      Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks with precision and endurance in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, confined spaces).

Technical employees of IDS are required to supply personal tools to complete the tasks associated with their work. The employee will also provide their own tool bag or pack.

Education: Post-Secondary Electrical or Mechatronics Diploma or Degree (other relevant technologies will be considered) with specific knowledge in the following areas:

·      Proficiency in control circuit design is critical.

·      Proficiency in 2D CAD software (AutoCAD) is critical.

·      Proficiency in software development (Ladder, Structured Text, C/C++) is critical.

·      Proficiency in electrical motor control is critical.

·      Familiarity with mechanical relations in a moving system (torque, inertia, kinetic energy) is desirable.

·      Understanding of web development (HTML, HTML5, Java, CSS) is desirable.


Experience: Relevant experience is an asset. Working experience with any of the following platforms is an asset:

·      Rockwell (Allen Bradley) PLC and motion systems.

·      Siemens PLC and motion systems.

·      B&R PLC and motion systems.

·      Parker SSD drive systems.

·      Schneider drive systems.

·      .NET Development

·      Arduino

·      AutoCAD

·      Eplan


Certifications:

·      Valid Ontario driver’s (G) license or equivalent

·      Valid passport and the ability to travel between Canada and the U.S.A.
