Network Security Engineer


Location: Eeklo, Belgium

Duration: 6 months

Regime: 5 days onsite per week

Experience Level: 5+ years


Business Context

The team manages more than 30 locations, supporting 1,350 users across 4 continents, covering both office and production networks. The mission is to ensure a reliable, high-performance, and secure network for all users.


The focus lies on networking and security. We are seeking a consultant who can:

  • Apply the right security layer across network, server, and cloud landscapes.
  • Help monitor, maintain, and expand security capabilities.
  • Provide architectural input and operational execution.
  • Support the team as a potential backup lead.


Responsibilities

  • Participate in network projects and perform security-related operations and optimizations.
  • Contribute to architectural-level discussions and decisions.
  • Act as the daily point of contact for security-related incidents across systems and users.
  • Proactively detect abnormal or suspicious activity, investigate inconsistencies, and provide security reporting.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation for processes, environments, and end-users.
  • Keep current with security trends and emerging challenges across End User Workplace (AV, hardening), Networking & Firewalling, Cloud Applications, OT, Servers, and Virtualization.


Technical Context

  • Firewalling: Palo Alto (initial setup, rule base design and maintenance).
  • Cloud Networking & Security: Microsoft Azure.
  • Network Engineering:
  • Cisco switching and routers.
  • Cisco ISE, SDA, Cisco Catalyst.
  • LAN / WLAN / SD-WAN, Wireless.
  • Segmentation: IT/OT environments.
  • Security Principles: Zero Trust.
  • Standards/Frameworks: NIS2 knowledge is a plus.
  • Operations: SOC/NOC, incident detection, response, and monitoring.
  • Vulnerability & Risk Management:
  • Vulnerability detection, prioritization, patching.
  • Risk assessment and mitigation.


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant network and security experience.
  • Master’s degree in IT or equivalent is a plus.
  • Certifications highly valued:
  • Palo Alto PCNSA, PCNSE.
  • Microsoft SC-200: Security Operations Analyst.
  • Microsoft SC-300: Identity and Access Administrator.
