Assouline Publishing is seeking a junior designer to join its creative team. We’re looking for a strong designer to help design beautiful books focus on luxury lifestyle—fashion, travel, art, etc. Candidates should have excellent communication, multi-tasking, and creative conceptualization skills. They should be adept at working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and can juggle multiple projects at once.

Responsibilities:

• Reporting to art directors, designer is responsible for approximately 10-15 luxury book projects per year
• Set up templates, design layouts, route materials within deadlines, review color proofs, gather files for printer, and marking-up for the production department
• Work with Art Directors, Creative Director, Editors, and Publishers from concept stage to finish
• Conduct art/image research
• Prepare files for reprints
• Design invitations and in-store signage as needed
• Liaise with outside departments, including Editorial, Communications, and Production
• Communicate and manage external vendors, including color separators and printers
• Take an active role in understanding book production processes and issues
• Archive completed files on server for reprint updates
• Attend weekly status meetings
• Work alongside Creative Director

Qualifications:

• Minimum 1+ years print experience, with prior experience in the luxury industry a plus
• In-depth knowledge of offset print production a plus
• Strong typographic and color (CMYK and RGB) skills
• Superior attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task, meeting various deadlines at once
• Excellent knowledge of Mac OS and Adobe Creative Suite applications: InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
• Knowledge of French a plus
