The Role


We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our development team as we modernize our mobile applications and web platforms. You will work on cutting edge mobile experiences that deliver news and journalism to hundreds of thousands of readers across our digital platforms.


You will collaborate closely with our Engineering Manager and development team to build, optimize, and maintain React Native applications. You will contribute to features that serve our diverse readership, from breaking news alerts to in-depth investigative journalism, while ensuring high performance standards in today's competitive digital media landscape.


This role offers a unique opportunity for a software developer to grow their skills in a dynamic media environment, working with modern technologies and contributing to meaningful projects that inform and engage communities.


Responsibilities will include;


  • Develop and maintain cross-platform mobile applications using React Native and Expo for iOS and Android


  • Collaborate with designers and product managers to translate wireframes into functional mobile interfaces


  • Integrate with backend APIs to deliver dynamic content, user authentication, and real-time updates


  • Participate in code reviews providing and incorporating constructive feedback


  • Contribute to development workflows and continuous integration processes


  • Integrate with CMS systems particularly ArcXP for articles, multimedia content, and breaking news


  • Implement media streaming optimization for images, videos, and audio content


  • Support subscription and paywall functionality including user authentication and premium content access


Skills & Experience


  • Minimum of 3 5 years of professional software development experience with at least 2 years in mobile application development
  • Strong JavaScript/TypeScript proficiency with solid understanding of modern ES6+ features and async programming
  • Hands on React Native experience with app store deployments and cross-platform development understanding
  • Expo development workflow knowledge including EAS Build and OvertheAir updates
  • Node.js backend integration experience including REST API consumption and authentication handling
  • Mobile app architecture understanding including state management (Redux, Context API) and navigation
  • Version control proficiency with Git workflows and collaborative development
  • Performance optimization knowledge including memory management and bundle optimization
  • Agile development experience with sprint planning and iterative development
