The game engineering team builds and operates our flagship math MMORPG, played by millions of students each month. We focus on high-performing, scalable features that transform education while delivering a fun gameplay experience. By building for the future, iterating quickly, and empowering one another, we aim to create learning outcomes that reach students around the world.

We’re seeking a Junior Game Developer to join one of our established feature teams, where you’ll help shape how millions of students engage with math through quests, battles, collections, and new gameplay features. You’ll collaborate with experienced developers across a variety of disciplines, gain exposure to many facets of the game, and build tools to help streamline the development process. The team also comes together in person at our quarterly game on-sites where there’s a chance to connect, share ideas, and push innovation forward.

Your Impact

  • Implement new features by writing high-quality code to improve the game and create a dynamic and ever evolving experience
  • Collaborate with product owners, game designers, artists, and other team members to ensure the regular release of new game features
  • Build tooling that helps streamline designer workflows and enables them to quickly iterate and push out new content to our players
  • Maintain a balance between development speed and long-term future-proofing, prioritizing speed when necessary
  • Review code from other developers to ensure best practises are followed and a culture of continuous improvement is fostered

About You

  • You have a passion for gaming and have experience creating games in either TypeScript, C#, and/or C++
  • You have foundational knowledge of programming concepts, especially with statically typed languages
  • Solving problems energizes you, you enjoy creating quick feedback loops to create a hypothesis, gather feedback quickly, and iterate on a solution
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and are comfortable taking on the challenge of explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • You have a huge interest in technology and you stay on top of industry trends through a variety of mediums

Bonus Points

  • Experience using established game engines like Unity and Unreal
  • Experience building web games and games for children

  • Our game is built with a custom HTML5 engine and editor based on PixiJS, developed in TypeScript
  • Our internal tools are built with React and TypeScript
