Job/Role Description
As an Analytics Engineer at Phamily, you’ll transform raw healthcare data into trusted insights that drive smarter decisions across our organization. You’ll design clean, scalable data models, build a governed semantic layer in Looker, and empower teams to self-serve key business metrics. Beyond pipelines and dashboards, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring data quality, protecting sensitive health information, and enabling our product, clinical, and operations teams to act on insights confidently.
This is a highly visible role where you’ll shape how data fuels proactive healthcare, directly advancing Phamily’s mission to improve outcomes and reduce costs.

Job/Role Description
As an Analytics Engineer at Phamily, you’ll transform raw healthcare data into trusted insights that drive smarter decisions across our organization. You’ll design clean, scalable data models, build a governed semantic layer in Looker, and empower teams to self-serve key business metrics. Beyond pipelines and dashboards, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring data quality, protecting sensitive health information, and enabling our product, clinical, and operations teams to act on insights confidently.
This is a highly visible role where you’ll shape how data fuels proactive healthcare, directly advancing Phamily’s mission to improve outcomes and reduce costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain dbt models (staging → marts) with clear ownership, documentation, and testing.
- Build and manage the Looker semantic layer, including Explores, governed metrics, and dashboards for self-serve analytics.
- Partner with stakeholders to translate business questions into clear, reusable data products and insights.
- Ensure data quality and trust by implementing tests, observability, and data freshness monitoring.
- Provide ad-hoc analysis and decision support for product, operations, and leadership teams.
- Create playbooks, host office hours, and train non-technical users to confidently leverage Looker.
- Protect PHI with strong permissioning, governance, and secure defaults.
- 2+ years of experience in analytics engineering or data analytics, with strong SQL skills.
- Hands-on experience with dbt (models, tests, docs) and Looker (LookML, Explores, dashboards).
- Proven ability to model for cloud data warehouses (BigQuery preferred) and manage version control (Git).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate vague questions into actionable metrics.
- Experience working with sensitive healthcare data and applying appropriate governance practices.
- Bonus: Familiarity with Python for analysis/automation and CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions).
- Bonus: Knowledge of healthcare analytics (claims, clinical, or patient engagement data).
