This position offers the opportunity to contribute to an innovative educational game with the potential for national impact in health science learning, while gaining experience at the intersection of Unity development and medical education research. This is a support-focused role designed to provide training and development opportunities in game programming and prototyping within a university research environment.

Position Overview

The Game Development Technical Specialist will support the development of Medimon, an educational creature-collector game designed to enhance health science literacy. This role emphasizes assisting in implementing and testing prototype gameplay mechanics, integrating assets, and supporting research-related data collection tools. The position will work closely under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) and interdisciplinary collaborators.

Duties May Include

  • Assisting with implementation, testing, and optimization of prototype gameplay features in Unity.
  • Integrating art and animation assets into the Unity game engine.
  • Supporting development of systems for in-game data collection to track engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Performing debugging, playtesting, and version control (GitHub).
  • Preparing documentation and providing progress updates to the PI.
  • Other support duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • Demonstrated familiarity with Unity and C#.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently on assigned tasks.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Game Development, Interactive Media, or a closely related field

  • None

Additional Preferred

  • Coursework or experience in game prototyping or interactive media.
  • Familiarity with creature-collector, RPG-style and/or 2D-style games.
  • Interest in educational games or serious games.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with researchers.
