With the rapid expansion of digital data and the growing need to apply data-driven solutions to challenges across industries and communities, Azure Storage continues to evolve to meet these demands. The Azure Storage team is seeking experienced engineers to join agile and inclusive teams focused on deploying Data Processing Units (DPU) technology to enhance performance and scalability.

As a Software Engineer on the Azure Storage team, you will contribute to building high-performance, scale-out block storage systems using DPU hardware. Your role will span the entire storage lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support. This position offers a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of cloud computing and gain hands-on experience in developing and maintaining cloud services at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project lead) to determine requirements for a set of features. Begins to leverage a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes.
  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Writes and learns to create code that is extensible and maintainable. Considers diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability with few defects, and understands when the code is ready to be shared and delivered.
  • Contributes to processes for the architecture of a product/solution feature and helps to create proposals for architecture by testing design hypotheses and helping to refine code plans, with technical leadership from others.
  • Works in a culture of continuous improvement, adaptation, reflection, and growth.
  • Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with storage and/or operating systems.
  • You must be legally authorised to work in Romania to be eligible for this role. (Legally authorised = has citizenship or has been granted a valid visa or work permit)
  • Fluency in English.
Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
    • OR related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,
    • OR Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Windows or Linux Operating System.
  • Experience with distributed systems and storage.
