Job Description

The Senior Program Manager is responsible for the design, governance, reporting, and management of Group Property programs and pipeline development. This includes overseeing the prioritisation of programs, projects, initiatives, and resourcing to meet Transformation (TX) targets.

Initially, the role will lead a major program to deliver a new Flight Simulator facility in Sydney, while also managing ongoing Gateway program works. With overall accountability for $50M–$100M in capital expenditure, the role will oversee the transition of five simulators to the new facility and manage the associated impacts on employees.

This is a high-impact role involving large-scale change across the Qantas Group. It requires strategic oversight across multiple project streams, strong stakeholder engagement (including internal teams and external partners such as SACL and RMS), and the ability to drive outcomes within tight timeframes. The Senior Program Manager will ensure robust governance, identify and manage critical path milestones and risks, and produce steering committee materials for presentation to Group Management Committee members throughout the program lifecycle.

You’ll have –

  • Extensive experience [10 – 15 years] in Project Management, with exposure to large scale business transformation and change in complex operational environment
  • Significant experience in customer facing and business development roles at senior management level
  • Broad experience in a range of commercial positions and demonstrated ability to solve complex business issues across operational unit/s
  • Degree in Business, Commerce, Engineering, or other related discipline
  • Post graduate qualification (desirable)
  • Formal Project Management accreditations such as PMBOK or Prince2 qualifications
  • Ability to deal with senior stakeholders (both internal and external parties) on complex issues to influence and adding value to the business
  • Superior team leadership and staff development track record
  • A proven track record in the development and implementation of business strategies
  • Exceptional understanding of business processes and extensive experience in commercial and /or operational business functions
  • Strong understanding of best practices in managing risk and compliance outcomes
  • Superior financial, communications and project / change management skills
  • Proven ability to quickly identify issues, develop strategic options, facilitate or make decisions and plan action
  • A customer-oriented approach with an ability to question and challenge effectively whilst maintaining strong relationships
  • A strong understanding of the property or project impacts on the operational teams and their operating environment
  • Proven skills in leading transformational change projects
  • Extensive experience in business improvement, change management and consulting techniques developed through past involvement in business change/transformation projects
  • Demonstrated ability to engage people through developed communication and leadership skills
  • Resilient, capable of effective leadership in a dynamic business with evolving challenges and priorities
