Rate: Up to 100 EUR/hour (Flexible for the right candidate)
About the Opportunity
A fast-growing startup at the intersection of machine learning and biomedical research is seeking a freelance Senior Data Scientist to support its mission to revolutionize cancer and disease diagnostics through AI-powered tissue analysis. Spun out of a leading European university and medical center, and backed by Series A funding, the team partners with top academic and industry stakeholders across Europe and North America.
This freelance role offers the chance to work on meaningful, cutting-edge projects in digital pathology and medical imaging, while enjoying flexible, remote-friendly collaboration.
What You’ll Do
- As a freelance Senior Data Scientist, you will:
- Lead or contribute to technical collaborations with academic or industry partners
- Design and run machine learning experiments on high-resolution biomedical image data
- Translate complex biomedical questions into scalable, AI-driven solutions
- Develop and test proof-of-concept models, with potential for production deployment
- Collaborate with internal teams and mentor junior scientists as needed
- Present and document technical findings clearly and professionally
What We’re Looking For
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, or related fields
- 3+ years of hands-on experience developing ML models for research or applied use
- Strong programming skills in Python, with a good handle on modern ML frameworks
- Comfortable with Linux environments and cloud-based computing tools
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Self-directed and able to manage independent projects with minimal oversight
Nice to Have:
- Experience with computer vision or digital pathology
- Background in biomedical data analysis
- Prior freelance or consulting experience in research or tech industries
