The Microsoft Azure Host Networking and Hardware Acceleration team is building a high-performance and reliable cloud network. This organization is responsible for developing and maintaining the network layers that span from physical infrastructure to virtual machines. Current and future development efforts are focused on Linux platforms and hardware design. We are seeking an early-career Data Scientist I who is eager to engage with real-world product issues and use that experience to generate actionable insights that improve both our product and engineering processes.

As a Data Scientist I, you will contribute to extending our auto-detection systems, participate in investigations of business-critical incidents, and grow as a subject matter expert in kernel-level networking operations. You will work with novel networking data to uncover insights that shape engineering behavior and process improvements. Curiosity about system internals, effective communication skills, and familiarity with low-level compute concepts will be valuable in this role.You will collaborate with engineers across Azure and contribute to the evolution of our platform’s reliability and efficiency through data-driven approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Develop LLM based solutions for expert recommendation systems
  • Draw conclusions from novel network trace data
  • Drive insights from process data
  • Take ownership and drive mission critical customer escalations.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience debugging, supporting, or managing production servers.
Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science,
    • OR related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science,
    • OR related field AND 1+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) development experience in networking or Linux kernel
  • 1+ year(s) of experience using Python/R and SQL.
Data Science IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
