The role is responsible for ensuring seamless coordination, optimization, and system-level troubleshooting across all technical division teams. This role drives synergy and collaboration, supports major project phases, and takes ownership of the Disaster Recovery Plans. By ensuring alignment across functional teams, the director fosters innovation and operational excellence while reducing risks and costs.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Coordination:
- Act as the central point of reference for all teams on transversal matters, ensuring system-level considerations are embedded into team activities.
- Facilitate collaboration across departments to align system-level objectives and strategies.
Related KPIs:
- Effective transversal coordination and identification of cross-system interactions.
Optimization:
- Create synergies between teams to drive system-level optimizations, such as operational simplifications, risk mitigation, cost reduction, and adherence to standards.
- Continuously evaluate and enhance processes to improve the performance, scalability, and efficiency of satellite and ground segment systems.
Related KPIs:
- Level optimizations achieved, including cost reductions and risk mitigations.
- Number of suggested tasks to be automated.
- Number of implemented automations.
Troubleshooting and Emergency Management:
- Engage in major issue resolution as early as possible, ensuring system-level perspectives and solutions are applied.
- Own and maintain the Disaster Recovery Plan, ensuring its alignment with organizational risk management strategies.

- Speed and effectiveness of multi-segment issue resolution.
- Quality and maintenance of the Disaster Recovery Plan.
Project Involvement:
- Participate in all major phases of projects to ensure system-level considerations are integrated into planning and execution.
- Identify and address transversal interactions or impacts that may be overlooked by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) due to system boundaries or specializations.
Technology Integration and Adoption:
- Lead the integration of advanced technologies such as AI, cloud infrastructure, and software-defined systems to improve system performance and scalability.
- Oversee interoperability efforts across multi-orbit constellations (LEO/MEO/GEO) and the integration of 5G with satellite networks.

Team Development and Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Foster a culture of collaboration and innovation, mentoring team members to prepare them for System Engineering roles.
Continuous Improvement:
- Ensure all improvement recommendations and suggestions for the continuous improvement in the Technical Division practices are executed taking into account ‘best practice’, changes in international standards and changes in the business environment which demand proactive action plans.
- Ensure all recommended and valid suggestions are implemented.
- Ensure to perform Audits to evaluate and take necessary actions for implemented improvements.

- Number and quality of improvements are in line with corporate expectations and implemented.
Policies, Processes & Procedures:
- Develop and implement the System Engineering policies, processes, procedures and controls so that all relevant procedural/ legislative requirements are fulfilled.
- Ensure all procedures are maintained up to date with feedback from operators.
- Ensure all implemented process/policies and procedures are adhered to by the Technical Division.
- Adapt international system engineering standards to the technical division processes and procedures.

IT Service Management:
- Develop, Maintain & Manage all ITSM processes.
- Act as a Change Manager.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Satellite Communications, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 20+ years in satellite or telecom systems engineering, with a focus on system design, integration, and cross-functional collaboration.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to coordinate across departments and manage stakeholder relationships effectively.
- Experience in driving system-level enhancements and leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Proven experience in operating Satellite Systems and Subsystems.
- Proven experience in operating Satellite Ground Systems.
- Knowledgeable in integration, test processes, procedures and flows.
- Knowledgeable in satellite technologies, both current and future roadmaps.
- Ability to adapt strategy to available organizational resources (human capital, financial resources, capex, opex…etc).
