๐ Wide Area Networks Engineer โ Defence (NV1+) | Symonston, ACT
Azooa Pty Ltd is seeking Expressions of Interest from highly experienced Wide Area Networks (WAN) Engineers to support the Land Network Integration Centre (LNIC) in Symonston, ACT, as part of our response to RFQTS 16627.
This is a long-term Defence engagement (2 years, with 2 ร 12-month extension options) where youโll deliver advanced WAN and SATCOM engineering solutions to Armyโs digital network integration efforts across Land, Joint, and Coalition environments.
The role is hands-on, technical, and critical to enabling interoperability and secure information exchange across Army and coalition forces.
๐ About the Role
The Wide Area Networks Engineer (Advanced Practitioner) will provide expertise in:
- ๐ฐ Designing, building, implementing, and supporting WANs based on satellite and terrestrial technologies.
- ๐ง Conducting technical verification and validation of in-service and emerging SATCOM/WAN systems.
- ๐ Managing cryptographic networks, ensuring alignment with current and future (post-quantum) encryption requirements.
- ๐ Supporting Army exercises, field trials, and coalition interoperability programs.
- ๐งช Contributing to integration testing, concept demonstrations, and prototype development to inform future capability decisions.
- ๐จ ๐ซ Delivering training and mentorship to Army personnel.
๐ Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
- ๐ Network Engineering & Support
- ๐ฐ Provide engineering solutions within LNICโs Validate function for the Land Combat System (LCS).
- โ๏ธ Build and administer mission WANs using FDMA/TDMA SATCOM, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, IPv4/IPv6, TriLos, and emerging transport systems.
- ๐งฉ Configure/test mission WAN assemblies prior to deployment.
- ๐ก Enhance wideband trunking, deployable LAN switching, and routing.
- ๐ Cryptography & Security
- ๐ Establish/manage IP cryptographic networks for secure transport.
- ๐งฎ Align systems with emerging cryptographic requirements, including post-quantum standards.
- ๐งช Systems Integration & Validation
- โ๏ธ Conduct verification/validation of SATCOM and WAN systems.
- ๐ Support Tactical Communication Networks (TCN) routing.
- โซ Develop/test black core network configurations for Army formations.
- ๐ค Support engineering of SWARM systems.
- ๐งต Contribute to design and configuration of LCS and coalition distributed labs.
- ๐ Coalition Interoperability
- ๐ค Provide integration advice across deployable WANs, LANs, cryptographic nets, and coalition systems.
- ๐ Support Combined Federated Battlelab Networks and Coalition Interoperability Assurance & Validation domains.
- ๐ Deliver SME input to major Defence projects at early design stages.
- ๐ Innovation & Emerging Tech
- ๐ก Propose innovation activities to assess future-ready LCS technologies.
- ๐ฅ Assist with HyperVisor and Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) engineering.
- ๐จ ๐ซ Training & Mentorship
- ๐ Provide training, technical guidance, and mentoring to Army personnel.
- ๐ง Deliver technical advice across the Land Integration Framework โ Digital (LIF-D).
- ๐ SME Support
- โ๏ธ Provide on-ground support to Army/Coalition activities (domestic & international).
- ๐ Contribute to project documentation and stakeholder integration discussions.
๐ Essential Requirements
- ๐ฐ Extensive experience designing, implementing, and operating SATCOM and WAN technologies in military or industry contexts.
- ๐ Strong knowledge of enterprise and deployable networking.
- ๐ Relevant tertiary or vocational qualifications in SATCOM Engineering, Network Engineering, or related disciplines.
- ๐ก Experience supporting Defence or government projects.
- ๐งฉ Ability to integrate emerging technologies into secure, classified environments.
- ๐ค Proven ability to work both independently and within multi-disciplinary Defence teams.
- ๐ฌ Strong skills in stakeholder engagement with Defence/APS/industry.
- ๐ NV1 security clearance (minimum) โ NV2 upgrade may be required.
๐ Desirable
- ๐งช Defence/industry Test & Evaluation experience.
- ๐ Knowledge of systems engineering practices.
- ๐จ ๐ซ Proven experience delivering technical instruction/training.
- ๐ Strong skills in technical writing and documentation.
๐ Engagement Details
- ๐ Location: Symonston, ACT (LNIC Facility)
- ๐ Duration: 2 years (Nov 2025 โ Oct 2027), with 2 ร 12-month extension options
- โฑ Workload: Up to 230 working days per year
- ๐ Probation: 3 months
- โ๏ธ Travel: Some domestic and international travel required to support exercises and coalition activities
- ๐ Security: NV1 clearance required (NV2 upgrade may be requested)
