The GSMP (Global Standards Management process) Manager plays an essential role in the international standards community. The GSMP Manager unites stakeholders ensuring the smooth creation of global standards from gathering requirements to approving a standardised solution.


This role is a 3-year contract position.


The ideal candidate will proactively manage risks, align technical concepts with standards goals and communicate clearly across stakeholder groups. They will coordinate resources and engage participants to maximise collaboration, while applying strong project management practices to ensure timely progress and milestone approvals. Skilled in facilitation and change management, the successful candidate will foster transparent teamwork, resolve conflicts constructively and prepare for contingencies throughout the standards development lifecycle.


The successful candidate will have expertise in fostering relationships and building consensus among diverse stakeholders. The GSMP Manager’s goal is consensus-based development of global standards that will be implemented by organisations to achieve efficiencies across industry value chains.



Responsibilities include the following:


Group Facilitation Knowledge / Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support stakeholder involvement; promote idea sharing and ensure inclusivity.
  • Be part of a team working towards ensuring broad consensus and innovation across working groups and technical committees that span different geographies and sectors
  • Align project goals with stakeholder needs and facilitate cross-functional collaboration across product, legal, and technical teams.
  • Develop trust with all relevant stakeholders inside and outside GS1 Global Office.
  • Prepare members and internal colleagues for active participation in the Global Standards Management Process (GSMP).


Build Consensus-driven GS1 Global Standards

  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and resources to meet evolving needs.
  • Act as a liaison between technical experts and business stakeholders to bridge technical solutions and business outcomes.
  • Integrate GS1 Global sector initiatives, policies, and programmes with standards development.
  • Smoothly transition projects from pre-development scoping to post-development adoption.
  • Ensure standards align with GS1’s strategic goals and industry trends.


Education/experience

  • Bachelor's or master's degree with 5 years of related experience.
  • Experience using or developing GS1 Standards OR any experience (even academic) with standards bodies (e.g., ISO, ANSI, GS1), regulatory frameworks, or compliance documentation.


Skills (in order of importance from must have to nice to have)

  • Must be fluent in English, oral and written. Fluency in other languages is helpful.
  • Strong organisational, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Effective relationship builder – one-to-one, one-to-many, internally and externally, with small and large organisations.
  • Ability to create strong and trusted relationships with a globally distributed team in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrates passion, energy, and drive in their work.
  • Excellent time management skills and flexibility to cater for commitments across multiple time zones.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Customer-focused and results-oriented.


This job may require up to 10% global travel.
