About The Team

As a member of the SRE team, you'll be at the core of ensuring platform resilience and providing top-tier observability. We manage observability platforms, enhance internal libraries with a focus on reliability, and automate incident management to maintain high service uptime.

About The Role

As Staff Site Reliability Engineer at Tide you will:

  • Drive Observability Strategy: Evolve our observability practices using Datadog, promoting a culture of data-driven decision-making. You will champion the use of SLOs, automated alerting, and distributed tracing to ensure teams are on top of their service health
  • Lead Incident Management Evolution: Refine and automate our incident management processes. You will build and improve tooling to reduce stress during incidents, lead blameless post-mortems, and ensure that we learn from every event to prevent recurrence
  • Engineer for Reliability: Contribute directly to our internal libraries and service templates (primarily Java/Spring Boot) to provide a "paved road" for reliability. You will automate complex or repetitive tasks, such as database failovers or incident mitigation steps.
  • Act as a Reliability Consultant: Serve as a subject matter expert for product teams, providing guidance on designing fault-tolerant systems, resolving complex production issues, and adopting reliability best practices

What We Are Looking For

  • A passion for building and operating resilient distributed systems at scale. You think deeply about failure modes, cascading effects, and recovery mechanisms
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in a software engineering or SRE role, with a strong background in backend development and systems architecture
  • Deep expertise in a modern programming language. While our primary stack is Java, we value your depth of knowledge and welcome experts in languages like Go or Python who are willing to work with Java
  • Experience with cloud-native infrastructure and tooling, including AWS, container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
  • Strong familiarity with modern observability tooling (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, Honeycomb)
  • A collaborative and autonomous mindset. You are comfortable mentoring other engineers, driving cross-team initiatives, and communicating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences

Our Tech Stack

  • Java, Spring Boot and JOOQ to build the RESTful APIs of our microservices (but we welcome people who are used to any strongly typed general purpose programming language!)
  • Event-driven architecture with messages over SNS+SQS and Kafka to make them reliable
  • Primary datastores are MySQL and PostgreSQL via RDS or Aurora (we are heavy AWS users)
  • Docker, Terraform, EKS used by the Cloud team to run the platform
  • DataDog to keep it running
  • GitHub with Semgrep and solid testing to power the CI/CD pipelines - new joiners are encouraged to have something deployed to production in their first 2 weeks
  • Angular 2+ with Nngrx on Web, Flutter for the Mobile App
  • Fivetran/Snowflake/Looker for the BI insights and Python/Faust/Flask/Tecton + some ML libs for the automated decisioning and risk management

What You’ll Get In Return

  • The gross monthly salary for this position ranges from €7,400 to €11,560 depending on your skills, and experience. But we are also open to discussing the salary further, taking into account your expertise and contributions.
  • MELP - flexible benefit app (50 EUR per month accruing) (does not include Health Insurance)
  • 25 days paid annual leave
  • 3 paid days off for volunteering or L&D activities
  • Parental Leave days (according to statutory)
  • Family-Friendly Leave (according to statutory + extended from Tide)
  • Personal L&D budget in the amount of 500 EUR per year
  • Mental wellbeing platform Plumm
  • WFH equipment allowance
  • Sabbatical Leave
  • Share options
  • Team Events
