The job

As a Process Engineer Photonics, you will develop, optimize, and maintain manufacturing processes for photonic devices and components. You will work with R&D, procurement, quality, and production teams to ensure reliable, scalable, and high-yield processes. The role combines hands-on cleanroom work with analytical problem-solving to drive process improvements.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and standardize fabrication and assembly processes for photonic devices.
• Implement smart process control strategies to boost yield, quality, and reliability.
• Collaborate with R&D to successfully scale prototypes into robust manufacturing processes.
• Analyze process data, identify root causes, and translate findings into effective solutions.
• Work with equipment engineers to specify, qualify, and maintain advanced production tools.
• Document process flows, work instructions, and best practices to ensure knowledge transfer.
• Contribute to continuous improvement using Six Sigma, Lean, and SPC methodologies.

We are looking for

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Photonics, or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in process engineering, ideally in photonics, semiconductor, or microfabrication.
• Hands-on experience with cleanroom processes (e.g., lithography, etching, thin-film deposition, bonding, or optical alignment).
• Strong problem-solving skills with proficiency in data analysis tools (MATLAB, Python, etc.).
• Familiarity with quality systems and process characterization methods (DOE, SPC, FMEA).
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills In English and Dutch
• Experience with integrated photonics, lasers, detectors, or modulators.
• Knowledge of optical testing and characterization techniques.
• Background in scaling processes from lab to pilot or volume manufacturing.
