The NCI Agency is seeking a skilled Data Scientist to support NATO’s Programmes of Work in Science & Technology and Innovation.

Duties
- Data Science Application: Apply established data science techniques and programming methods to new datasets and problems to meet organisational needs.
- Data Preparation: Select and prepare structured/unstructured datasets for model development and analysis.
- Model Evaluation: Assess performance of machine learning and statistical models, improve training data, and refine algorithms.
- Reporting & Publishing: Produce outputs, reports, and visualisations to meet customer requirements and standards.
- Data Pipelines & Lakes: Develop and maintain pipelines and support upkeep of the organisation’s data lake, ensuring data availability.
- Machine Learning Initiatives: Suggest ML approaches, contribute to toolset enhancements, evaluate ML performance, and assist in implementing new solutions.
- Innovation & Continuous Learning: Keep up to date with new advances in data science and AI, introducing innovative techniques where relevant.
- Collaboration: Work with internal teams, stakeholders, industry partners, and academia.
- Additional: May deputize for senior staff; expected to travel frequently across NATO/NCIA sites.
Essential Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant post-degree experience.
Technical Expertise:
- Experience with advanced data science, analytics, and integration tools.
- Proficiency in data analytics and visualisation tools.
- Background in supporting data-driven operations in a technical organisation.
- Must demonstrate at least two of the following:
- Big Data ecosystem experience (e.g., DataBricks, Spark).
- Planning, executing, and maintaining data pipelines.
- Knowledge of ML/statistical/mathematical models, able to explain to technical & non-technical stakeholders.
- Communication: Proven ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
Desirable Requirements
- Master’s degree or higher in Data Science, AI Engineering, or similar.
- Experience with data presentation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Spotfire, Kibana, Dash, Streamlit).
- Familiarity with DevOps best practices (git, CI/CD pipelines).
- Experience with cloud computing (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Multilingualism: Proficiency in English required; knowledge of French (or the other NATO language) desirable.
