Job Description: Network Engineer – Level 1

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Level 1 Network Engineer to provide first-line support for network infrastructure. The role involves monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving basic network issues, as well as escalating complex incidents to higher levels of support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor network performance, availability, and alerts through NMS tools.
  • Provide first-level troubleshooting for LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and firewall issues.
  • Respond to incidents, service requests, and user-reported problems in a timely manner.
  • Perform basic configuration and support of switches, routers, access points, and firewalls under supervision.
  • Support in patching, cabling, and racking network devices (rack and stack).
  • Document incidents, resolutions, and maintain accurate logs.
  • Escalate unresolved or complex issues to L2/L3 teams while providing detailed diagnostics.
  • Assist in scheduled maintenance, backups, and network health checks.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for incident handling and change management.

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, DHCP, DNS, and VPN concepts.
  • Familiarity with networking hardware (switches, routers, firewalls, wireless APs).
  • Knowledge of network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, Zabbix).
  • Ability to use CLI for basic troubleshooting (Cisco, Juniper, etc.).
  • Hands-on knowledge of cabling standards and patching.
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, IT, Telecommunications, or related field.
  • Relevant certifications preferred (CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent).
  • 0–2 years of experience in network operations or IT support.

Shift & Availability

  • Willingness to work in shifts (24/7 NOC environment, if applicable).
  • On-call support for critical incidents when required.
