Job Description: Network Engineer – Level 1
Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Level 1 Network Engineer to provide first-line support for network infrastructure. The role involves monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving basic network issues, as well as escalating complex incidents to higher levels of support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor network performance, availability, and alerts through NMS tools.
- Provide first-level troubleshooting for LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and firewall issues.
- Respond to incidents, service requests, and user-reported problems in a timely manner.
- Perform basic configuration and support of switches, routers, access points, and firewalls under supervision.
- Support in patching, cabling, and racking network devices (rack and stack).
- Document incidents, resolutions, and maintain accurate logs.
- Escalate unresolved or complex issues to L2/L3 teams while providing detailed diagnostics.
- Assist in scheduled maintenance, backups, and network health checks.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for incident handling and change management.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, DHCP, DNS, and VPN concepts.
- Familiarity with networking hardware (switches, routers, firewalls, wireless APs).
- Knowledge of network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, Zabbix).
- Ability to use CLI for basic troubleshooting (Cisco, Juniper, etc.).
- Hands-on knowledge of cabling standards and patching.
- Good problem-solving and communication skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, IT, Telecommunications, or related field.
- Relevant certifications preferred (CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent).
- 0–2 years of experience in network operations or IT support.
Shift & Availability
- Willingness to work in shifts (24/7 NOC environment, if applicable).
- On-call support for critical incidents when required.
