As a Software Engineer, you will contribute in partnership with appropriate internal stakeholders to understand customer/user requirements for a feature. Understands proposals and develops an understanding of how to apply them under the technical leadership of others. Supports the identification of dependencies, and their incorporation into the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight. With guidance, learns how and creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable. Learns about and supports deployment to customers by following the correct measures to push features out to customers. Learns to contribute to efforts to integrate logging and instrumentation for gathering telemetry data on system behavior such as performance, reliability, availability, usage, and safety mechanisms, and for allowing monitoring and investigating security-related concerns for both live and A/B experiments. Learns about and helps to ensure the correct processes are followed to achieve a high degree of security, privacy, safety, and accessibility. Develops knowledge of and learns to apply best practices to build code based on well-established methods and secure design principles. Works with partner teams to ensure a product feature works well with the components of the partner team with direct supervision before going live.

Responsibilities

  • Code Review & Debugging: Participates in code reviews, applies coding standards, uses automated analysis tools, and begins proactive debugging with guidance.
  • Design & Architecture: Explores design options, contributes to documents, understands performance and compliance implications, and escalates findings for decisions.
  • Security & Compliance: Learns secure coding practices, supports audit and deployment gates, and begins applying privacy and security principles with supervision.
  • Implementation & Planning: Assists in breaking down work items, estimating tasks, and ensuring security and compliance are considered during planning.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript
    • OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
