Main goal
The National Associations’ Strategic Development unit exists to help national associations achieve their potential. Our mission is to generate and gather knowledge, establish services for national associations, and bring people together. Insights are a key domain of the UEFA Grow programme. We work with and for national associations to grow football.
To help us deliver on this mission, we are looking for a NA Data Specialist to join our team. The role will focus on establishing greater connectivity with stakeholder systems and delivering reliable, harmonised, and actionable data foundations that support strategic decision-making and the growth of football across Europe. This will include leading platform and user integrations as well as managing and analysing complex datasets related to UEFA’s 55 member associations, their markets, and football in general.
The role combines the technical expertise of a data engineer/scientist with tangible experience in data project management and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to identify data needs, prioritise questions, and support strategic initiatives;
- Lead the design and implementation of new and established platform-based data projects;
- Support technical teams to build, maintain, and monitor automated data pipelines for ingesting and processing structured and unstructured data;
- Design schemas, documentation, and metadata standards for integrated datasets, ensuring transparency and reproducibility;
- Clean, prepare, consolidate, and harmonise data across different tools and sources to enable reliable comparisons and reporting;
- Carry out automation, statistical analysis and modelling where appropriate, producing actionable insights and predictive forecasts;
- Implement data quality assurance and continuous monitoring to detect anomalies and ensure long-term reliability of datasets;
- Navigate legal requirements to ensure development of compliant systems.
Requirements
Experience:
- At least 3 years of professional experience in a similar role
- Proven experience with data integration, ETL/ELT pipeline development, statistical analysis, or machine learning
- Hands-on experience with APIs, relational databases, and unstructured datasets
- Experience working on large-scale data projects involving multiple stakeholders
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree and/or PhD would be a plus
- Certificates related to data engineering, analytics, cloud platforms, databases, and/or data project management are desirable
- English / Proficient
- Strong ability to work with high-level programming languages such as Python
- Knowledge of SQL and cloud-based platforms (e.g. Snowflake, AWS, Azure)
- Understanding of workflow/orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow, DBT, Dataiku, Knime, Alteryx)
- Proven ability to design, implement, and monitor robust pipelines and/or data products
- Proven ability to engage technical and non-technical users on data platforms
- Strong communication skills in presenting and explaining technical concepts to different audiences
- Highly motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for working with data
