Charterhouse is currently working with a Tech Innovation Company is looking to hire a skilled LabOps Engineer to join their engineering operations team. This role offers a unique opportunity to support the development and testing of next-generation network operating systems within a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
The LabOps Engineer will be responsible for managing a growing fleet of network switches and associated lab infrastructure across both on-premises and co-location sites. The role requires hands-on expertise in setting up, cabling, and powering lab hardware, installing firmware and test images, and performing basic functional checks on devices under test. Responsibilities include maintaining and improving the lab’s network infrastructure, including patch panels, management switches, DHCP/DNS services, console servers, and KVMs. In addition, accurate documentation, asset inventories, cabling diagrams, and port maps must be maintained, while coordinating lab access and usage across engineering teams.
As the role develops, taking ownership of streamlining lab workflows through automation, applying tools like Python, Ansible, and NetBox to improve efficiency and consistency is required. Monitoring environmental conditions including power, cooling, and space is essential to maintain safe and reliable lab operations. The LabOps Engineer will serve as the primary contact for equipment logistics, managing RMAs and coordinating with vendors to support the lab’s evolving needs.
The ideal candidate will have a hands-on experience with network hardware setup and maintenance, a basic understanding of Ethernet/IP networking and console access, and familiarity with Linux for scripting and remote management. Strong documentation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely with physical equipment are essential. Excellent communication and coordination abilities within a diverse team are also important.
Experience in lab automation, IPAM tools such as NetBox, remote management solutions like Opengear or KVM-over-IP, or exposure to CI/CD frameworks is highly desirable. Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Linux+, or vendor-specific credentials (Cisco, Juniper) are advantageous, as is a proven track record of improving lab efficiency or reliability through tooling or process enhancements. Written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.
