We are looking for a Senior Data Governance Engineer to advance our data governance strategy and frameworks.
You will focus on protecting, monitoring, and governing data across Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 collaboration environments. Your role involves implementing and managing tools and processes to ensure regulatory compliance while minimizing data leakage risks. You will collaborate with various teams to support secure data collaboration and compliance audits. Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and manage data classification, labeling, and retention policies in Microsoft Purview
- Implement data loss prevention policies and define compliance boundaries
- Monitor sensitive data activity and alerts to support audits and compliance reporting
- Manage data protection and compliance features across Office 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
- Deploy and optimize sensitivity labels and information protection policies
- Implement Secure Score recommendations related to data governance
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, and data owners to enforce governance policies
- Maintain and enhance metadata management, data cataloging, and data lineage capabilities
- Support regulatory and internal audit requirements such as SOX, GDPR, and DORA
- Monitor data sharing and access behavior to investigate potential data leakage events
- Integrate with SIEM, Insider Risk, and DLP alerts for automated triage and escalation
- Lead remediation efforts and awareness training in cooperation with security teams
- Implement governance controls in Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
- Review and optimize sharing configurations, guest access, and group policies
- Enforce collaboration boundaries and conditional access policies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in data governance, information security, or compliance engineering
- Proficiency in Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 Compliance Center including data loss prevention
- Experience with Office 365 collaboration tools such as Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Outlook
- Strong knowledge of data protection regulations including GDPR, SOX, and DORA
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals or Certified Information Privacy Technologist
- Experience integrating Microsoft Purview with SIEM/SOAR platforms like Sentinel and Defender for Cloud Apps
- Familiarity with scripting or automation tools such as PowerShell and Microsoft Graph API
- Fluency in English at a professional working level
