Role Description

This is a flexible-time, remote freelance role for a Python & Machine Learning Engineer with proven OCR experience. You will be responsible for developing and deploying machine learning algorithms, currently mainly in the field of document automation and OCR.

Regular tasks include:

• Creating and refining machine learning models, label and clean data
• Working on scripts in the field of OCR-related data processing and pattern recognition
• Training, tuning, and applying machine learning models
• Analysing and improving pipelines
• Supporting server-side processes (reviewing logs, restarting or adjusting scripts on client servers)

You will collaborate directly with the founder and are expected to bring in your own expertise, best practices, and solutions. Knowledge transfer is key – I want to learn from you and grow together.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in training and deploying custom Machine Learning models
• Strong Python programming skills (clean, reliable code – not just prototyping), Vibe-coding won't work for our kind of tasks.
• Practical experience with OCR technologies (e.g. Tesseract, PaddleOCR, TrOCR, or custom approaches)
• Ability to independently understand and solve ML problems end-to-end
• Experience with Linux environments and server log analysis is a plus
• Fluent in German (at least reading & writing) since parts of the code, data, documentation and client communication are in German
• Excellent problem-solving skills, high reliability, creativity and respect for data confidentiality
